This year's Metro Pace winner, unbeaten Control The Moment, was scratched from his last start but returned on Friday seemingly no worse for wear.
With regular driver Randy Waples at the controls, the freshman son of Well Said - Lifesliltreasure left from Post 5 and made every call in his Friday morning qualifier a winning one. Through modest fractions of :28.3, :56.3 and 1:25.3, Control The Moment already had a 12-length lead by the third station and that margin increased with every stride approaching the wire. A :26.3 final panel punctuated a 1:52.1 winning mile, with a 26-length winning margin.
Owned by trainer Brad Maxwell along with Toronto's Ben Mudry and Pennsylvanians Edwin Gold and Howard Taylor, Control The Moment has yet to taste defeat from seven freshman starts. He is eligible to the 2015 Breeders Crown, set for October 24 at Woodbine Racetrack.
