Drunkonaplane stalked a late battle between pacesetter Brookdale Sonny and first-over Lets Wait And See before before propelling to a length-victory in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Brookdale Sonny led early as Drunkonaplane sat sixth to the quarter seven lengths off a :27.3 first split. Driver Brett MacDonald soon edged the Craig Gilmour trainee third over as Lets Wait And See shot uncovered towards the leader with Fool Me Once second over. By the half in :57.2, Lets Wait And See drew to within a neck of the lead moving through the backstretch. Fool Me Once stalled a touch while Drunkonaplane readied his bid from fifth.
Lets Wait And See parked to three-quarters in 1:25.4 as Brookdale Sonny clung to the lead. Drunkonaplane ranged into contention moving into the stretch and slid past the duelers nearing the wire. Brookdale Sonny held second from Lets Wait And See fading a length in third.
A four-year-old gelding by Rock N Roll Heavn out of the Artsplace mare Ali Badali, Drunkonaplane won his fourth race in 23 starts this season and his 10th in 49 overall, earning $89,490. Craig Gilmour conditions the $19.30 winner for owner ICR Racing.
