Hello Carlo Takes Batavia Open Trot

Mario Caponi’s Hello Carlo scored the 7-1 upset when he won the featured $8,000 Open Trot at Batavia Downs Casino on Friday night

Heavy favourite Tuesdays With Mom with Jack Flanigen fired out of her assigned outside post and put up numbers of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:28.3, but was unable to hold off the pocket-sitting Hello Carlo, who angled out at the top of the stretch and outfinished the trotting queen of Western New York at the wire by a head in 1:59.1. Perfect Man (Dave McNeight III) finished two lengths back in third.

Kevin Cummings sat behind Hello Carlo for trainer Steve Weaver. It was the 10th win of the season for Hello Carlo and he raised his career earnings to $199,314.

On a night of upsets, reinsman Keith Kash, Jr. lite up the toteboard twice, scoring with Gunsman Ace ($55.50) and Up Front Northern ($38.20). Both are trained by D J Millner.

Racing resumes on Saturday night, post time is 6:40 p.m. Racing fan are reminded there will be free Breeders Crown programs available while supplies last at the program stand beginning at 5 p.m.
