Two-year-old pacing filly Marilyn ($4.30) earned her third victory in B.C. Breeders Stakes action, which continued on Friday night at Fraser Downs with the fourth legs of the Betty Millbank and Robert Murphy divisions.
In the first of two $15,000 Millbank divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies, Marilyn and driver Kevin Anderson moved from fifth at the half and reeled in popular pacesetter Nice Aint My Color (:29.1, 1:01.2, 1:31) to prevail by a half-length in 1:59.4. Mark Anderson trains and co-owns the Custard The Dragon-Lady Luvs Diamonds filly, who rebounded from a sixth-place finish in last week's third leg. Dali Doubl finished three and a half lengths behind in third.
Trained and driven by David Hudon, Glimpseofgoodness pulled off a 12-1 upset in the second split as she shot through the passing lane off a tracking trip and edged out the popular two-leg winner Scardy Cat, who rallied three-wide from the back of the pack, and pacesetter Custard Lite (:28.1, :58.1, 1:27) by three-quarters of a length in 1:57 flat. Kelly Hudon owns and bred the Test Flight-Adorable Killean filly, who paid $26.80 to win. The victory was her first in seven starts.
Millbanks Bart ($4.40) was a repeat winner the Robert Murphy Stakes for three-year-old male pacers, leading wire-to-wire in the $20,000 fourth leg division. The Sportswriter-G Vs Cam Can gelding carved out fractions of :27, :57.1 and 1:26 en route to a three-length victory in a career-best time of 1:54.2 with Serge Masse catch-driving for trainer Rod Therres and co-owner Blair Miller. Mach Steady and Bakardi Gold came on for second and third, respectively.
This week's $12,000 Open Pace went to Illwinifican ($5.30), who closed off the cover of eventual third-place finisher Sabine Pass and collared the front-striding Buddy Weiser at the wire in 1:54.4 for trainer/driver Dennis Johnston and co-owner Ray Thomson.
