Odds-on favourite Pretty Handsome left for command early and maintained the helm through the finish to win the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Driver Colin Kelly cleared control with Pretty Handsome before a :28.1 first quarter and faced no pressure towards a :58 half. Racemup came first over from third into the backside and ranged towards the leader passing three-quarters in 1:26 but gave chase through the stretch as Pretty Handsome hit the finish two-and-three-quarter lengths in front in a 1:53.4 mile. Pocket-sitter Smooth Mara N finished third.
A four-year-old gelding by Mach Three, Pretty Handsome won his 12th race from 28 starts this season and his 25th from 48 overall, earning $244,055. Andrew McCabe conditions the $2.80 winner for owner Glenview Livestock Ltd.
Magic Night ground first over earlier in the card to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot earlier in the card.
Power And Grace brushed past Magic Night to take control to the first turn while Katch Kanna slipped into the pocket. Magic Night, the 9-5 favourite, raced third to a :28 first quarter and tipped first over heading to a :58.2 half. The five-year-old Kadabra gelding drew closer to Power And Grace passing three-quarters in 1:28 but did not stick a head in front until late in the mile to down Power And Grace in 1:58.1. Katch Kanna finished third.
Owned by trainer Ashleigh Hensley and driver Ed Hensley, Magic Night won his fifth race from 30 starts this season and his 15th from 76 overall, surpassing $300,000 in earnings. She paid $5.80 to win.
Lady Caterina rode the pocket to a 1:59.3 win in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot. The seven-year-old Holiday Road mare drafted tempo-setter Precieuse Cc through splits of :28, :57.2 and 1:28.2 before shooting past the faltering leader through the stretch. Charlie Is A Joker kicked wide moving to the final turn and lunged towards the leader late but finished a head behind in a 1:59.3 mile. Encanacion tracked Charlie Is A Joker for third.
Trained by Alan Fair for owner Elizabeth Fair, Lady Caterina won her eighth race in 22 starts this season and her 23rd in 137 overall, earning $226,585. Tyler Moore drove the $16.70 winner.
Paparazzi Hanover rolled around tiring leaders to win the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace in 1:55.1.
Easy Flyer protected position from the pylons while Toot Toot N challenged the leader but failed to clear to a :27.3 first quarter. Toot Toot N parked uncovered through a :56.4 half and 1:26 three-quarters before retreating into the final turn. Paparazzi Hanover, second over at the half, circled Toot Toot N to take the lead moving into the stretch and hold off race-favourite Beachin Lindy as he rallied wider to finish second by a head. American Wiggle closed for third.
Co-owned by driver Travis Cullen with Keith Hannah, Paparazzi Hanover won his seventh race from 35 starts this season and his 22nd from 157 overall, earning $339,226. Jodie Cullen conditions the seven-year-old Well Said gelding who paid $7.00 to win.
