Bettor On Than Off scored his third straight victory in the Winners Over Handicap Pace at Truro Raceway as the Danny Romo trainee left his rivals more than nine lengths in arrears in a career-best performance on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Truro Raceway.
Driver Robert Laffin sent the outside assignee straight to the lead in the $2,500 top class and there was never an anxious moment for the favourite. Bettors On Than Off expanded his lead to 4-1/2 lengths through fractions of :27.2, :56 and 1:25 then more than doubled that margin through the stretch as he romped to victory in 1:54. The six-year-old matched his lifetime mark taken this past summer at the Truro, N.S. oval.
Bettor On Than Off was sent postward as the heavy 1-4 favourite in the field of five and returned $2.50 to win. Crime Boss (Kenny Parker Jr.) took over second with a quarter-mile to go and Cool Dew (Keith Legge), who sustained broken equipment, followed in third.
Romo also owns the Bettors Delight-Lights Go Out gelding, who earned his seventh victory of the season in 21 starts and is now a 15-time career winner.
