McNair Mastery In Harvest Series

Round two of the Ontario Harvest Series for two-year-old fillies was contested Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and single divisions were the story for pacers and trotters in leg two of the event.

Saundra, who failed to hit the ticket as the odds-on choice in last week’s leg one assignment, bounced back to capture the lone, $17,000 division for trotting fillies.

Doug McNair got away third with the Shane Weber trainee while Angelonia shot to the top and had the field chasing her past the quarter pole in :28.2. Race favourite Ladyflix then popped the pocket and charged to the lead. She went on to post middle panels of :58.4 and 1:29.4 over the sloppy track. McNair tipped his charge off the rail going to the three-quarter pole, and then used a :29.1 closing panel to win by a head over an off stride Ladyflix in 1:59.3.

Ladyflix was late placed ninth for an extended break in the stretch. That resulted in Silver Diamond being third-placed-second and Angelonia then being fourth-placed-third.

Sent off at odds of 6-1 this time around, the daughter of Resolve-World Class Image won for the second time in three attempts for owners/breeders Tom and Beth Rankin of St. Catharines, Ont.

Day To Party, who also failed to win as an odds-on choice in week one of the series, rolled to an impressive-looking victory in the lone, $17,000 division for pacing fillies.

Doug McNair got away third with the Ben Wallace pupil, who then shot to the front shortly past the opening quarter. Day To Party cleared to the top and then posted middle fractions of :58.2 and 1:27.1. She then stormed home in :28.2 to win by 5-3/4 lengths over Quebecoise in 1:55.3. Third prize went to Momentarily.

Trainer Ben Wallace co-owns the daughter of Sportswriter-Day To Ponder through his Wallacestandardbreds Inc with partners Daniel Plouffe and Terry Krawec. The victory was her second of the season from nine attempts. She’s hit the ticket in seven of those outings while banking over $65,000.
