Art I Special Wins Northside Feature

Art I Special returned to victory lane for the ninth time this season with a wire-to-wire romp in the top pacing class featured on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs.

Trainer/driver Redmond Doucet sent the post five starter to the lead in the $1,300 Winners Over Pace and never looked back en route to the 1:57.3 triumph. Grandtacular and Russell MacDonald followed two lengths behind from the pocket while slight favourite Barefoot Contessa and Greg Bailey came on for third.

Randy Copley of Inverness, N.S. owns the six-year-old Artsplace gelding, who paid $6.40 to win. The victory was Art I Special's 42nd lifetime.

Doucet completed a sweep of the late Daily Double aboard Art I Special. He also scored with Walter Walker trainee Dontcallmeprincess ($8.30), a six length winner in 2:00 flat.

Northside's leading trainer Kevin Bailey enjoyed a triple sending out Brandons Escape ($3) as well as a pair of upsetters, Romolapolooza ($24.80) and Mr Mahovlich ($49.70).

Ankaway ($6.50) and driver John Beaton took the $1,250 Tom Hawco Memorial Pace in 2:01.2 with a five and a half-length winning margin for trainer/owner Travis Campbell.
