Macapelo Seelster produced the field’s fastest final quarter to pace away to a 3-1/4-length wire-to-wire victory in the $14,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Flamboro Downs.
Coming off a distaff Preferred win on Oct. 4, the Peter Brickman trainee converted the pylon post to an early lead with :27.1 speed to the first station. She reduced the tempo to the half in :57.1, then marched to three-quarters in 1:25 to stall the advancing Charmbo Stormy (Brady Galliers) and Shoot The Whiskey (Ed Hensley). Austin Sorrie dropped the hammer on the final turn, sending Macapelo Seelster off to a 1:53.1 victory. Charmbo Stormy was second, followed by a rallying Samethingonydifrnt (Paul MacKenzie).
Macapelo Seelster notched her fourth win of the year — and third in a Preferred event — from 19 starts for owner Erin Swainson-Brickman of Sebringville, Ont. The four-year-old daughter of Big Jim-Macapelo Rose is 10-for-46 lifetime and has earned $252,063. She paid $2.60 to win.
