Sophomore pacers were the stars of the show during Friday’s card at Fraser Downs, which featured the third leg of the Mary Murphy Breeders Stakes for fillies and the Robert Millbank Memorial Breeders Stakes for colts and geldings.

The fillies were up first in a pair of $7,500 divisions, with top honours going to T Squared and Ladychaterlyslover in their respective contests.

T Squared went to the front and didn’t look back in her division for trainer/driver Rick White. The homebred daughter of Allamerican Cobalt-Samantha Square laid down splits of :28.2, :59.4 and 1:28.2 before scooting home in :28.2 to win in 1:56.4. Jennys Big Book was a length in arrears, with third prize earned by Run And Tell.

It was the fifth win of the year in 10 tries for the career winner of $65,792. The filly is owned by White and partner June Kauffman of Woodinville, WA.

Ladychaterlyslover also used front-end tactics to win her assignments in 1:57.1. Scott Knight hustled the daughter of Youdontknowjack-Beautiful Oprah to the engine and she ripped through fractions of :28.1, :58.3 and 1:27.1 before using a :30-second closing quarter to win by a head over Jay Majic. Third prize was earned by Go To The Windows.

Ty O’Neill trains the two-time winner for partners Teresa White of Aldergrove and Philip McLaren of Langley, BC. The youngster has banked just over $13,000 to date.

The lone division for the colts and geldings went to Mister Hat in 1:59.1. Jim Marino mapped out a two-hole trip for the colt, who escaped late en route to posting the narrow triumph. Mystic Ruler whacked out fractions of :28, 1:00.1 and 1:30, but he couldn’t fend off the late surge from Mister Hat who rallied past the tempo-setter for the half-length score. Mystic Ruler was next best, with the show dough going to Its My Birthday.

Marjorie Dumont trains the son of Mister Big-Shirley Hall for Westerners Stable of Wetaskiwin, AB. It was the second win of the season for the colt, who now boasts a career record of 2-1-2 from 10 trips to the track. His share of the $7,500 purse bumped his cash stash to $13,335.
