Gostreet Surprises In Mares Preferred

Gostreet and driver/trainer Lyle MacArthur pulled off a 9-1 upset with an off-the-pace score in the featured $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot Saturday night at Georgian Downs

Flora Dream (Scott Coulter) worked up a four length lead on the field through panels of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.4 while Gostreet sat back in fifth. The Angus Hall-Rose Street Jewel mare made her move en route to the third quarter mark and pulled ahead of the pacesetter down the lane to triumph in 1:57.2.

Flora Dream finished two and three-quarter lengths behind and Desperatehousewife (Todd Ratchford) was third.

The win was Gostreet's 14th in 31 starts this year and lifted her earnings to nearly $170,000 for owners Linda Wellwood, St. George Brant and Tammy Aspden of Caistor Centre, Ont. The winner of 22 races lifetime now sports a bankroll totaling $261,608.
