After five failed attempts as the favourite in the top class, The Light Speed returned to the winner's circle for the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace with a 1:53 effort on Sunday night (Oct. 23) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

Lovemyrockinbird set a steady tempo of :27.3, :56.2 and 1:24.2 on the lead. Trainer-driver Guy Gagnon got underway with The Light Speed passing the half and grabbed cover when flushing Flash Cube from third to the final turn. Flash Cube dug into Lovemyrockinbird spinning for home while Gagnon launched The Light Speed three wide and steadily gained ground on the dueling leaders. The Light Speed edged then to a nose victory at the finish over Flash Cube with Lovemyrockinbird third and Blue Moose, off a pocket trip, finishing fourth.

A four-year-old homebred Moon Beam gelding for Michel Nolette, The Light Speed won his 28th race from 68 starts and has now earned $202,529. He paid $3.40 to win.
