A number of Breeders Crown competitors comprised the field of $50,000 Open Trot to kick off the card of harness racing on Saturday (Oct. 23).
At the age of eight — and after not racing at all in 2020 — Warrawee Roo looks to give trainer Luc Blais a solid one-two punch in the 2021 Breeders Crown Open Trot. With stablemate Forbidden Trade winning a tightening qualifier on Friday (Oct. 23) at The Meadowlands, Bob McClure piloted Warrawee Roo to a hard-closing 1:51.2 lifetime best performance on Saturday.
The 4-5 toteboard choice Beads (David Miller) carved out fractions of :26.2, :54.2 and 1:23 without any serious pressure up front. Chin Chin Hall (Todd McCarthy) commenced a first-over bid approaching the third station and faced off with Beads turning for home. McClure and Warrawee Roo were third over at this point, and the trotter responded with a flash of late speed when shown clear racetrack. As Chin Chin Hall wore down Beads in deep stretch, Warrawee Roo was still flying with late trot and edged past in the final strides to win by a length. Chin Chin Hall stayed for second with Its Academic (Yannick Gingras) nosing out Beads for third.
Blais trains Warrawee Roo (Majestic Son - Karoon) for Determination of Montreal, Que. The trotting horse picked up his 15th lifetime victory and shaved two-fifths of a second off his previous mark.
