After missing the board in last week’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, Old Jack Magic gave it another go in the top class and came away with an impressive victory for trainer Jerry Duford.
Scott Young was paired up with Ole Jack Magic, and together they rolled to the front and laid down fractions of :28, :58.1 and 1:27.1 before cruising home in :30 to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Euro Classic in 1:57.1. Delcrest Massy did the first-over work before tiring and settling for third-place finish in the eight-horse affair.
Old Jack Magic, a seven-year-old son of Kadabra-Whitesand Electra, improved this year’s record to 5-2-3 from 29 starts with the win. The 12-time winner is owned by Home Stretch Holdings Inc of Rockwood, Ont. He’s bankrolled in excess of $43,000 this season and more than $267,000 in his career.
