Hensley Doubles In BC Breeders Action

The first leg of the BC Breeders Stake for freshmen was contested on Friday night at Fraser Downs featuring two $10,000 divisions for filly pacers and another two for pacing colts and geldings

Fresh off a track record performance in the BC Sales Stake, Just Fiction ($3.50) kept her record perfect with a wire-to-wire romp in the opening filly division. The popular daughter of Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover left from the inside post position with trainer-driver Ed Hensley and carved out fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.4 en route to a 1:57.2 score by over seven lengths. Cristina Lake (Jim Marino) and 75-1 Gonnab Agoodknight (Jim Marino) finished second and third.

Just Fiction is now four-for-four in her freshman campaign with $24,400 earned for the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. and Alan Anderson of Willows, California.

Anjelles Aura ($6.00) wore down favourite Bianca (Kevin Anderson) in the final strides to capture the second filly split in 1:56.2. The Jennas Beach Boy-Heavenly Aura filly, who sat mid-pack through fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:26.2, prevailed by three-quarters of a length with Keith Clark at the lines. S R S Annie (Don Monkman Jr.) was third.

Trained by Justin Currie and owned by Barry MacFarlane of Powell River, B.C., Anjelles Aura picked up her first career win in four starts and watched her bankroll jump to $7,450.

In the first colt division, BC Sales Stake runner-up Gramrun Jake ($9.50) and Tim Brown followed favourite Branding Party (Jim Marino) past opening markers of :28.3 and :59.2 before pulling the pocket and taking over at three-quarters in 1:28.2. The son of Camcracker-Roxette Hanover then cruised to his first victory in 1:58.1. Branding Party finished one and a half lengths behind in second and Limit The Risk (Ed Hensley) was third.

Gramrun Jake has one win and two seconds on his four-race record. He has banked $14,054 for owner Dan Ingram of Langley, B.C.

Midnite In La ($5.10) and Hensley left from Post 6 and carved out fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.4 en route to a career-best 1:57.2 victory by two lengths in the next colt division. Boom Shazam (Keith Clark) rallied from last to place while BC Sales Stake winner Just Ryan finished third off a pocket trip.

Midnite In La has won half of his four starts earning $12,216. The gelded son of Grinfromeartoear-Rolling Acres Rose is owned and bred by the J J J Stables and Alan Anderson.
