Leamington Raceway will bring the curtain down on its 2026 harness racing season this Sunday, Oct. 25, with a competitive 10-race card featuring the $11,000 Lakeshore Cup, Halloween festivities and the crowning of the track's leading driver and trainer.
The highlight of Sunday's closing-day card will be the $11,000 Lakeshore Cup, which has attracted a competitive field of six pacers. Left Hand Lou is the 8-5 morning-line favourite from post six following an impressive victory last Sunday at Leamington Raceway. The four-year-old Dancin Lou-Reis Star Cross gelding will once again be driven by Anthony Hamlin for trainer Michael Hamlin.
Talldarklatte, the 2-1 second choice in post five, will have Lorne House in the bike for trainer Melissa Loyer. The four-year-old Tall Dark Stranger-Outtathisworld mare has been a consistent performer this season, earning more than $50,000 in 2026.
Remember The Beach, listed at 3-1 with the inside draw, will look to rebound from last Sunday's outing after capturing three victories at Leamington this season. Nicholas Steward will drive the nine-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Allamerican Memoir for trainer Cameron McQueen.
Dapper Fella (driver David Edwards, post four, 4-1 odds), Write About Now (Donnie Rankie, post three, 6-1) and William Ross (Garrett Rooney, post two, 8-1) complete the field. The Lakeshore Cup is scheduled as race nine.
Nicholas Steward heads into the final day of the 2026 Leamington Raceway season with a commanding lead in the driver's standings. Steward has recorded 19 victories from 84 starts, along with 20 second-place finishes and eight thirds, earning $91,422 in purses.
Alex Lilley and Robert Doyle are tied for second with 14 wins apiece, while Garrett Rooney sits just behind with 13 victories. Scott Wray and Mark MacDonell round out the top six with 10 wins each.
With just one card remaining, Steward is in position to capture the 2026 Leamington Raceway driving title.
Cameron McQueen heads into the final day of the season with a commanding lead in the trainer standings. McQueen has recorded 16 victories from 50 starts, along with 11 second-place finishes and four thirds, earning $66,674 in purses.
Michael Stamp sits second with nine victories from just 24 starts, boasting an impressive 37.5 per cent win rate. Robert Doyle and Keith Cullen are tied for third with five wins apiece, while Gordon McDonnell, Michael Carther, Michael Hamlin, William Hamm and Darryl Laver each have four victories.
With a seven-win advantage heading into Sunday's finale, McQueen is set to capture the 2026 Leamington Raceway training title.
Closing day will also feature Halloween at the Races, with a costume contest for all ages and prizes awarded for the best costumes. Fans are encouraged to dress up and join in the festivities, although masks will not be permitted.
Post time is 1 p.m., and admission and parking are free.
Leamington Raceway would like to thank all of its fans, horsepeople, sponsors and supporters for their continued support throughout the 2026 racing season.
