Bet The Bb parried two challenges from the lead to capture the $14,500 Horses and Geldings Preferred Pace at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Owner-breeder Travis Cullen reached the lead with the gelding after pressing forward through a :27.1 first panel, then dropped the tempo to the half in :56. With parked-out Smiling Dancer (Wayne MacLean) at the leader’s throat, the top two threw down onto the backstretch, racing nose-to-nose through three-quarters in 1:24.1.
Smiling Dancer edged ahead to a brief lead entering the final turn, but Bet The Bb surged back to the front by the top of the stretch as P L Oliver (Daryl Thiessen) wound up off cover. With P L Oliver sprinting down the lane, Bet The Bb dug in to hold him off by a neck and score in 1:54.1. Delightful Leader (Mark MacDonell) rallied from fourth-over for third, beaten three-quarters of a length.
Bet The Bb has won back-to-back races after dropping from the Woodbine Mohawk Park ranks, with a conditioned win at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Oct. 5 prior to Thursday’s tally. Jodie Cullen trains the five-year-old son of All Bets Off-Sayitall Bb, who is now four-for-18 this year and 19-for-101 lifetime with $221,840 in earnings. He paid $6.70 to win.
