Harrington Raceway’s 79th season of live harness racing came to a close with a 15-race program on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
End-of-meet honours highlighted the program as Joe Columbo (62 wins) won his fifth training title over Joe Hundertpfund Jr. (44) and Crissy Crissman-Bier (33). Montrell Teague (101 wins) earned his second straight driving title over Corey Callahan (92) and Allan Davis (88).
The Delaware Valley Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association voted Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing Team’s Speed Away as Horse of the Meet. The Father Patrick-All The Time seven-year-old had seven wins in 11 starts, all in Open-level events, including three from post eight. All of his 14 wins over the past two seasons have come at Harrington.
In racing action, Bourbon Buzz ($2.60) made it five straight victories at Harrington, remaining undefeated at the track with another dominant score. The sophomore Muscle Hill-Cedarbluff Hanover gelding joined the Harrington ranks in August and has won each of his five local outings by more than three lengths while ascending the conditions. On Wednesday, he was 9-1/4 lengths the best over Queen Cabal (Allan Davis), with Priti Noor (Ross Wolfenden) third. Corey Callahan drove the winner in the 1:57.1 mile for owner-trainer Tom Shay. The gelding is now six-for-20 lifetime with six wins in 15 tries this year.
Vlahos took the feature, the $20,423 Winners Over Trot, in 1:55.4 by a neck over Sassy Reagan (Art Stafford Jr.), followed by Kodack Black (Teague). The winning John Dixon trainee, driven by Pat Berry, notched his ninth win of the year in 31 starts. Tyler Long owns the seven-year-old gelded son of Dusty Winner-Do We Lindy, a 31-time winner in 159 career starts. The win price was $13.
The Delaware circuit will now shift to Bally’s Dover, where racing will begin on a Monday-through-Thursday schedule, starting on Monday, Nov. 3 with a post time of 4:30 p.m.
