Doc Awesome was all business late in the night as he circled the field to win the featured $4,300 conditioned pace at Red Shores Summerside Raceway on Tuesday, Oct. 21, capping a solid evening for driver David Dowling.
After sitting last in the field of six to the quarter in :27.3, Dowling pulled the All Bets Off-Direct Macawesome gelding out before the half in :57.1 and brushed him to the lead at three-quarters in 1:26.2. Doc Awesome kept the pedal down and paced home to win in 1:55.3, with Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) second and American Risk (Brady Sweet) third.
Doc Awesome ($14.40) was a winner by 1-3/4 lengths for trainer Darla MacEachern, who co-owns him with Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron, all Summerside, P.E.I. residents. The gelding is now 11-for-73 lifetime with $38,039 in earnings.
Dowling authored a four-win night, stringing together a late-card heater starting in the ninth race. He also won with Twisted Joke ($3.60) in 1:58.4 for trainer Sifroi Melanson, Elm Grove Quest ($10.90) in 1:58.3 for Allan Jones and Howmac Charmer ($4.10) in 1:56.3 for Kyle Williams. The four-bagger puts Dowling in control of the drivers' standings at the Prince County, P.E.I. track with 53 wins on the season. Corey MacPherson now sits second with 52 wins, and Paul Langille rounds out the top three with 49 trips to the winner’s circle.
Driver Brady Sweet matched Dowling with four driving victories earlier on the 13-race program. His wins came with Tobins April Fool ($5.50) in 2:03.4 for Jeff Wallace in the opener, Thinkingofeddie ($3.50) in 1:59.3 from his own barn in the third race, Midnight Love ($8.60) in 2:00.2 for George Rennison in the fourth and Majestic Mason ($6.40) in 1:57.1 for Ricky Armstrong in the seventh.
