J J J Stable's homebred two-year-old filly Scardy Cat was a repeat winner in the Betty Millbank Breeders Stakes on Friday night (October 20) at Fraser Downs.
The evening's B.C. Breeders Stakes action featured two-year-old fillies in a pair of $15,000 third leg divisions of the Betty Millbank and three-year-old colts in a single $20,000 third leg division of the Robert Murphy.
Fresh off a victory in her career debut during last week's stakes action, Scardy Cat (Sportswriter-Cats Meow) advanced from fifth and collared Nice Aint My Color at the wire in 1:58 flat with Paul Davies aboard for trainer Mark Anderson. Kisthisgirlgoodbye finished over six lengths behind in third.
Hurried Romance (Dragon Again-Shes Just Rockin) fended off challenges from the parked out two-time stakes winner Marilyn and then Custard Lite to win the second split at odds of 11-1 in 1:57.2 for trainer/driver Rod Therres and co-owners Carol Ann Leeson and Blair Miller. The win was the filly's first in three career/stakes starts. Custard Lite settled for second, three-quarters of a length behind, and Glimpseofgoodness finished third.
Millbanks Bart led all the way to give Therres and Miller another Friday night stakes win in the Robert Murphy division. A nose and neck runner-up in the opening legs, the Sportswriter-G Vs Cam Can gelding kept Bakardi Gold at bay this time for a 1:57.2 victory by three-quarters of a length. Mach Steady came on for third over favourite Ima Dude.
In this week's $12,000 Open Pace, Its Eds Idea and trainer/driver Serge Masse held off Sabine Pass (Paul Davies) and Buddy Weiser (Rod Therres) by a nose in 1:54.2. The four-year-old Western Ideal-Keystone Edna gelding is owned by Lucy Raymond of Edmonton, Alta. Premium Stock and even-money favourite Illwinifican finished less than a length back in a blanket finish.
