Sent postward as the longest shot on the board at odds of 36-1, Stonebridge Brioso rallied wide from the backfield and opened up nearly six lengths on his foes to upset the $25,400 final of the Late Bloomer Series on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs.

With the more popular betting choices Lotto Ticket (Jonathan Drury), Kennairn Arts Boy (Paul MacLean), and Majestic (David Dowling) breaking striding at the start of the race, sophomore Lookin At Lucky (Mario Rivest) set up shop on the front end at odds of 17-1. He carved out fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:28.1.

Meanwhile, Wildcat Champagne (Justin Turcotte) advanced first over with Stonebridge Brioso and driver Wayne MacLean following his cover and angling three-wide at the third quarter mark.

Stonebridge Brioso swept by the top two and then drew away down the stretch for the 1:57.1 career-best victory. Lookin At Lucky stayed for second while Rosalies Smile (Don Rankin Jr.) finished over 10 lengths back in third.

Stonebridge Brioso returned $74.80 to his backers for a $2 win ticket.

The series is for non-winners of one race or $15,000 (fillies & mares $20,000) lifetime as of Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. Stonebridge Brioso finished third in his Oct. 6 division and broke stride in the Oct. 13 leg where he was seventh-placed eighth.

The four-year-old son of Western Ideal, who made just one start as a sophomore, has recorded two wins, two seconds and two thirds in nine career starts while banking $21,050 for local owner and trainer Ernst Wehrberger.

Earlier on the card, Atoka Millionaire etched his name in the track record books with a 15 length 1:54.4 tirumph in fourth race. His winning time matched the three-year-old pacing colt record held by Machapelo and Addwater.

Mario Rivest was aboard for trainer and co-owner Rene Allard, who claimed the streaking Million Dollar Cam colt for $13,500 from his last start on Oct. 17. However, the winner of half of his 30 seasonal starts was claimed away for the same price from his Saturday race.
