Repeat winners swept the second leg of the Harvest Series for Ontario-sired or bred two-year-old pacing fillies with Biscuitinthebasket and Midnight Matrimony back in the spotlight on Monday, Oct. 19 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The series is for non-winners of $30,000 in 2026 as of Sept. 30.
Biscuitinthebasket ($3.10) won the fastest of the two $25,000 divisions in round two with a 1:51.4 career-best effort in rein to James MacDonald for trainer Meg Crone and owner Laverne Turnbull of Kitchener, Ont.
The Cattlewash-Beachy Girl filly got away fourth through a :27 opening panel and reached up to take the lead past the half in :55. Biscuitinthebasket drew clear to three-quarters in 1:23.2 and the 1-2 favourite took off in the stretch to score by 2-1/4 lengths, leaving her rivals to duke it out for the minor spoils. Closing from the backfield, 58-1 longshot Shotgun Annie (Travis Henry) got up for secord over Lets Go Fishin (Mark MacDonald).
Following up on her maiden-breaking victory in last week's opening leg, Biscuitinthebasket now sports a career summary reading 2-2-2 in eight starts with $48,400 in earnings.
Midnight Matrimony ($2.40), another daughter of Cattlewash, scored in 1:53.4 for the father and son, training and driving team of Gregg and Doug McNair.
Firing from the outside wing of the starting gate, Midnight Matrimony made front at the quarter pole in :27.1 and got a rated half of :57.3. The 1-5 favourite held the lead to three-quarters in 1:26.1 as Del Ray Seelster (Tyler Borth) looked her in the eye then dug in down the lane to prevail by 1-1/4 lengths. TH Penelope (Mark MacDonell) escaped from the pocket late to place with Del Ray Seelster holding on for third in a show photo.
Owned by William Fleming of New York City, New York, the filly out of Quantum Blue Chip now has three wins in her first seven starts and $42,160 in earnings.
MacDonald also won the lone second-leg division for two-year-old trotting fillies as he was reunited with the Dan Lagace-trained TH Francesca ($15.30), a rookie he baby raced, for her maiden-breaking victory in 1:54.4. The King Of The North-Scorched Romance filly, who finished second by just half a length in round one last week, found success in her ninth career start as she rallied from fourth to first off final-turn cover in a :28.1 final frame, defeating 1-5 favourite Jyn Erso (Doug McNair) by 1-1/4 lengths. TH Francesca is owned by Lagace Stables of Cambridge, Ont., Edwin Buhler of Wantagh, New York and Big Als Stables of Woodbridge, Ont.
Harvest Series action dominated the Monday night card at Mohawk as another event kicked off for Ontario-sired or bred three-year-old fillies that were non-winners of $150,000 in 2026 as of Sept. 30 with $100,000 claimers also eligible. There were two $35,000 trotting tilts and a pair for pacers during the first leg.
Louis-Philippe Roy drove the fastest winners on each gait: pacing filly Pownal Bay Bobbi ($2.50) in 1:50.2 for trainer Kyle Fellows and trotting filly Lo And Behold ($6.30) in 1:54.3 to give the Meg Crone stable another Harvest victory on the night.
Fresh off a third-place finish in the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final, 1-5 favourite Pownal Bay Bobbi re-took the lead from Lavender Seelster (Travis Henry) after the opening panel and defeated that foe in a two-length tally. The Century Farroh-Bettorthanbobbi filly, a 1:48.4 winner this past summer at Mohawk, is owned by Yolanda Fellows of Rockwood, Ont., and Erna & Blair Corbeil of Leduc, Alta.
Roy looped Lo An Behold to the lead down the backstretch and the Green Manalishi S-Beholder filly opened up a big lead in the final turn before cruising home with enough margin to hold off the favoured Super Final runner-up, Twin B Showbiz (Tyler Borth), by half a length. An OSS Gold winner earlier this year, Lo An Behold is owned by W. J. Donovan of Delray Beach, Florida.
The McNairs also won a division for the sophomore pacing fillies with Romantic Beauty ($10.20) sprinting past pacesetter Malicia Speed (Travis Cullen) off a ground-saving trip to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:51.3 with a :26.3 final frame. A homebred for owner James Avritt Sr. of Lebanon, Kentucky, the Bettors Delight-Precious Beauty filly was a two-time Grassroots winner this year.
Satu Wania ($19.60) gave Green Manalishi S a sire sweep of the sophomore trotting filly divisions as she won the other split in wire-to-wire fashion by three lengths in 1:55 to match her lifetime mark after shrugging off final-turn challenger Douneedthemahcine (James MacDonald). The filly out of Miss Everything is driven by Trevor Henry, trained by Shannon Henry and owned by Trevor Henry Stables of Arthur, Ont., David Hudson of Dallas, Texas and James Fleming of Bayfield, Ont.
