After some hurdles delayed the start of her four-year-old season, 2024 Somebeachsomewhere Horse of the Year Chantilly returned to the racetrack during the session of qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, Oct. 2.
With regular driver James McDonald at the controls, Chantilly sat the pocket behind Tour Champion (Louis-Philippe Roy) through quarters of :28, :56.3 and 1:26.1 before angling out in the stretch and pacing home powerfully. She finished more than three lengths the best with the mile timed in 1:54.2 over the track listed as "good." Captain Fear Not (Daryl Thiessen) bested Tour Champion for second.
"James and I were happy with Chantilly this morning," said trainer Nick Gallucci. "We will qualify her again next week and hopefully she can stretch out a little more."
A daughter of Big Jim-Shiraz Seelster, Chantilly sports a career summary of 15-1-0 from 20 appearances with a mark of 1:49.4 and $1.3 million in earnings for Gallucci and owner-breeder Millar Farms of Stouffville, Ont.
