Oh Look Magic demolished Open Handicap Trot rivals for his fourth straight victory in the $38,889 featured event at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the highlight of a strong outing for driver Chris Page.
Kildare King (Trevor Smith) hustled off the gate and brought the field of seven past the opening quarter in :27, but Oh Look Magic, who was assigned the outside post seven, patiently made his way to the front before the half in :55.3. Spaaaanzano (Tyler Smith) was the first to challenge the new leader past the three quarters in 1:24. Oh Look Magic had plenty in reserve though and drew off by 4-3/4 lengths over stablemate Prince Of Honor (Austin Hanners) in 1:52.2. Kildare King held on for third.
Oh Look Magic, a five-year-old by Lookslikeachpndale-Miami Magic, has won four consecutive open-class events for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. The gelding has earned $670,839 and tallied 19 wins in 76 career outings. He paid $2.20 to win.
Page also won with Ruby Vuitton ($2.60), Fear My Heart ($2.80), and Atte Station ($4.80). With the grand slam, he increased his meet-leading win total to 16, two ahead of Jeremy Smith, who also had a four-bagger on the 14-race card.
Molly Bloom and driver Cameron McCown scored the night’s biggest upset with a 25-1 victory in a $9,722 conditioned pace for fillies and mares. Babes Darla (Luke Hanners) grabbed the early lead, parking the heavy favourite Fear Our Fayth (Jeremy Smith) past the opening quarter in :28. Fear Our Fayth then took over and was unpressured to the half in :56.2 before taking on the first-up Molly Bloom to three-quarters in 1:25.1. Molly Bloom wore down the leader and defeated the closing Babes Darla by a half-length in 1:54.3. Artistic Cut (Tyler Smith) was third.
The winner, a five-year-old Western Vintage-Right On Molly mare, is owned by GG Racing LLC and conditioned by Jessica McCown.
