The five-year-old Hes Watching stallion Tattoo Artist left little room for his competition to threaten as the Dr. Ian Moore-trained speedster coasted to a 1:49 win in the $39,000 Open Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday night (Oct. 1).
Driver James MacDonald motored Tattoo Artist, the 1-5 favourite, to the lead approaching a :27.3 first quarter and received nothing but respect from his peers. Strolling by the half in :56.1, Tattoo Artist uncorked a third-quarter sprint to click three-quarters in 1:22.3 and open five lengths on the field heading for home. MacDonald wrapped his charge up from there to pass the beam 3-1/4 lengths better than pocket-sitter Warrawee Vital in a 1:49 mile, with Mappos Lion giving chase in third and American History taking fourth.
Tattoo Artist races for owners Let It Ride Stables Inc., Frank Cannon and Diamond Creek Racing. He won his 29th race from 67 starts and has now earned $1,857,264. He paid $2.50 to win.
