American Risk and driver Darren Crowe won the feature Winners Over Pace at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 2) in a gate-to-wire victory.

Going to the gate as the bettors' choice, American Risk charged out of the four-hole, reaching the top ahead of Good Friday Three (Jeff Ellis). The field remained single file through the first quarter in :28.2. Frontier Cruise (Robert Laffin) pulled off the rail seeking a challenge with leading American Risk. After a :58 half and 1:27 third quarter, American Risk continued to separate himself from the rest of the field. Using a :29.4 last quarter, American Risk won by four and three-quarters of a length in 1:56.4. Frontier Cruise finished second and Dont Ask Logan (Ryder Matthews Rennison) was third.

American Risk is a six-year-old gelding by American Ideal, out of the Art Major mare Kissing Bandit. The victory is his seventh in 18 starts this year with eight other top three finishes. His 24th lifetime victory lifted his career earnings to $94,862. George Rennison trains the bay gelding for owner Risky Bizz Group of Truro, N.S.
