Austin Siegelman had quite the afternoon at Freehold Raceway on Friday (October 2). He won five races on the 11-race card, and one of them was on a horse who won his fifth in a row, Kasha V in the Garden State Futurity.
Siegelman got his first win on the day with Duck N Roll in the fourth race, for trainer Izzy Estrada. In the Garden State Futurity, he was on Kasha V, who had swept his way through the New Jersey Sire Stakes - Standardbred Development Fund earlier in the meet. He was the 7/2 second choice, with Barley going off at 1/9.
Siegelman had Kasha V in the pocket in the early stages, then retook the lead after the quarter. Barley began inching up closer, and Kasha V braced for the challenge of his favoured rival. As they turned for home, Barley went off stride, sealing the deal for Kasha V. From there, he cruised under the line five lengths in front. He went the mile in 1:58, for owner Theologos Moutafis and trainer Tom Corelli.
After that, Siegelman got the natural hat trick in Race 6, with Tom Fanning-trained Ashtini. He completed the grand slam in the 10th race with Fly in Style for trainer Chris Height, and got the five-bagger in the 11th race on Lionhead, trained by Terry Morgan.
Since the resumption of harness racing on August 28, Siegelman has far and away the most wins of any Freehold driver with 19 victories.
Live racing continues at Freehold on Saturday, starting at 12:30 p.m.
