The third time in Western New York was a charm for Fifty Two Finn who went on to victory in the featured $8,800 Open Handicap trot, Friday night (Oct. 1) at Batavia Downs Casino
.
Fifty Two Finn, with John Cummings, Jr. in the sulky, wore down favoured Hello Carlo (Jim McNeight) down the lane and went on to one-length win in 1:59.1. Longshot Heaven Hall (Kevin Cummings) came on late to nip Hello Carlo for second money.
Owner/trainer Ronald Stebbins claimed Fifty Two Finn for $15,000 at Tioga Downs on September 10 and has done a great job with him sporting a first, second and a third in three Batavia starts. The classy 10-year-old son of Movie Mogul has career earnings of more than $415,000.
The Open pacers get their turn when harness racing resumes on Saturday night. Former track record holder Michael Scores starts out as the 5/2 morning line choice in the second race of the evening. The first of 12 gets underway at 6:40 p.m.
