Commanding every station in the mile, Better Be In Love was the best in the $2,800 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 featured pace on Thursday (Oct. 19) evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell hustled the Brendan Mullen trainee off the gate out of post five and set down on the front end to lead through fractions of :28.2, :57.2 and 1:27 en route to the 1:55.3 victory. Elm Grove Mistress (Jason Hughes) was second ahead of Redlandbethanyjean (Brodie MacPhee).
Mullen co-owns Better Be In Love (sired by Bettors Delight) with Cole MacLaren and Erin McCardle.
Glider Man captured the top trot of the evening as driver Hughes guided him to a 1:58.1 score for the Yankee Glide eight-year-old’s 30th lifetime win for trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe, P.E.I.
Doyle and Hughes scored another win as Ladylike won the finale in 1:56 while Summer Lovin won earlier on the card in 1:57.4 as part of a driving triple for the Stratford, P.E.I. driver.
Adam Merner celebrated a driving triple with Southern Heart (1:58.2) for trainer Ron Matheson, Woodmere Rollily (1:56) from the Melissa Rennie stable and Lorne Valley Barb (1:56.2) for trainer Myles Heffernan Jr.
Trainer Matheson doubled up on the evening with Stealing Bases (David Dowling) winning race four in 1:59.
