Irish Ray has been nothing short of impeccable every step of his career and the two-year-old trotter will try to put the bookend on perfection Thursday evening (Oct. 20) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The city track has a 12-dash card starting at 6 p.m., with the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders Stakes featured on the program for two and three-year-old trotters.
Race 4 is the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders for two-year-old trotters carrying a $12,550 purse. Irish Ray is heavily favoured in the final start of his unbeaten two-year-old season for trainer/driver Marc Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston, P.E.I. The son of Muscle Through It will leave from post three as he seeks win number 11 of his career from as many starts with $63,675 in earnings.
Windemeregotmuscle (to be driven by Jason Hughes) got closer to Irish Ray than anyone as he finished one-length back of the trotter in second in last week’s $15,000 Atlantic Breeders Crown. He has post five on Thursday.
Miss Brylee Ridge (Clare MacDonald) has rail control at 3-1 morning-line odds.
The "Post Time Picks" places Irish Ray firmly in the win column: “Irish Ray is on a big-time roll this season and has reeled off 10 straight victories. There’s little doubt Campbell will be gunning early and if that’s the case, get ready to see them smiling for the camera.”
Up Helly AA is favoured in the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts (Race 6) with a $7,580 purse. The 17-time winner has post three for driver Ken MacDonald, trainer Clare MacDonald and owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside, P.E.I.
Oceanview Cicero is favoured from the inside in the $7,580 Maritime Breeders Stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies (Race 2) for trainer/driver Corey MacPherson and owner Carl Bagnall of Stratford, P.E.I.
