Regal Luck tracked down the popular pacesetter Twin B Inspiring to win the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace featured on Wednesday evening, October 19 at Flamboro Downs.
After winning by nine-plus lengths in last week's Preferred 3, 2-5 favourite Twin B Inspiring looked to dominate her foes again, charging to the lead from post five and carving out fractions of :27.3, :56.2 and 1:25.2 in rein to J.R. Plante. However, Regal Luck had other ideas and she began to advance from third at the half for driver Bob McClure. The 9-2 third choice collared Twin B Inspiring on the final turn and drew off down the stretch to win by three lengths in 1:55.1. Twin B Inspiring just held on for second-place as the rest of the field spread across the track. Pinky Tuscadero, the longest shot on the board at 18-1, rallied off the winner's cover and secured third-place for Mike Horner.
Regal Luck paid $11.20 to win. John H. Smith Jr. trains, owns and bred the six-year-old Stonebridge Regal-Lapidarys Luck mare, who has won four of her 10 races this year to push her career bankroll over $180,000.
In the $7,500 Preferred 3, sophomore filly Noone To Depend On and Alfie Carroll defeated the front-striding Donna Party and J Harris by half a length in 1:56, paying $4.60 to win as the 6-5 favourite. The Santanna Blue Chip-Tipsy Taters filly, who went on a successful first over journey of her own from an early four-hole, is trained by Victor Puddy for owners Carl and Brandy Jamieson.
