Training Trio Retires

Elbert Quesenberry, Howard Brown and William Putney are Northfield Park trainers who have recently entered the world of retirement

Quesenberry, a 72-year-old native of Clinton, Ohio, licensed as a driver since 1977 and a trainer since 1991, has racked up quite an impressive harness racing career. Quesenberry retires with 268 driving wins and purses of $561,636 over his 34 years in the sulky. Add in 93 training victories and purses of $297,494, and his career has been quite full at Northfield Park. Quesenberry has campaigned horses such as OBs Falcon Eddie, True Blue, Mudget, Im Chaser, Celebrity Wonder, Nora’s Dream T and Royal Tattler.

Brown, a 71-year-old resident of Hudson, Ohio, has been a licensed trainer since 1997. Brown has garnered 32 victories and $106,115 in career purse earnings. Among Brown’s favourite horses were Hula Lu, Slick As Sleet, I Will Come Over, Imafirmbeliefer and Tucson Lace.

Putney, a 65-year-old native of Mentor, Ohio, has been a licensed trainer since 2000. Since then, Putney has won 76 races and earned purses of $239,892. Horses that William Putney conditioned and raced included Northfield regulars Inquisitive Me, All Over Now and Ursula K.

Elbert Quesenberry, Howard Brown and William Putney are names that have frequented Northfield’s racing programs for many years. As the three Northfield Park mainstays enter the retirement years, the track wishes them well on their new adventures.
