After settling for the runner-up award in her last try in Fraser Downs’ Fillies and Mares Open class, Rossridge Fortune stepped up her game and took home all the marbles
in Sunday’s edition.
Rossridge Fortune and trainer/driver Keith Clark were in no hurry in the $10,000 tilt, which saw Jans Rich Girl step to the quarter pole in :28 before relinquishing the top spot to Lickcreek Jazzy. The new leader led through middle fractions of :57 and 1:26 before being overtaken.
Rossridge Fortune, who got away fifth before picking up second-over cover behind Bridgette Hanover in the back half of the mile, swung wide for the drive and used a :28.2 final frame to win by 2-1/4 lengths over the odds-on favourite, Lickcreek Jazzy, in 1:54.4. Bridgette Hanover held on to finish third.
Coupled in the wagering with stablemate Queen Of Swing and sent off as the 4-1 second choice, Rossridge Fortune recorded her fourth win of the season for the partnership of Clark, Robert Jones and John Hind. The three-year-old daughter of Brandons Cowboy has stashed away more than $135,000 in lifetime earnings.
