A trip to the border oval on Sunday evening proved to be a profitable and a memorable one for Rose Run Hooligan, who lowered the track’s record for older trotting horses
when he toured the oval in 1:55.2.
Rose Run Hooligan tucked into third when the gate sped away, but he didn’t sit there for very long. Driver Doug McNair had the Rene Allard pupil out and rolling as the field passed in front of the grandstand, and it didn’t take the seven-year-old son of Corleone very long to brush to the top.
Once in command, he rolled through middle panels of :57.3 and 1:26.2 before firing home in a :29-second clip which was good enough to propel him to a 4-1/2 length triumph over Keyodee Star in 1:55.2. Third prize went to Twin B Excalibur.
The winning performance shaved one-fifth of a second off the former track record set by Arva Crest Ago Go on June 21, 2000.
Rose Run Hooligan, who is owned by Allard, Anne O’Keefe and Ferme Bureau Et Fils, won for the third time this season in 17 trips postward. The 32-time winner has banked $561,444 to date.
