When summer turns to fall, the stock of Southwind Ricardo -- no matter where he's racing -- should start to rise.
The seven-year-old pacing gelding picked up his second win this week as Northside Downs shifted back to its traditional Saturday afternoon cards of harness racing. A sloppy surface was no issue for Southwind Ricardo in the Saturday $1,700 Winners Over feature pace. With Harold Leblanc Jr. at the controls, Southwind Ricardo showed his heels to the field through fractions of :29.3, 1:00 and 1:30.2 before closing in :30.2 to trip the timer four lengths the best in 2:00.4. Johnnie Jack (Greg Sparling) and Sweet City Girl (John Hawco) completed the top three.
Owned by Nova Scotians Joel Le Blanc of Victoria Mines, trainer Harold Le Blanc of Sydney, William Seymour & Bernie Gillis of Glace Bay, Southwind Ricardo (Dragon Again - Southwind Rio) picked up his sixth win of the season in 19 starts but his fourth win in his last six starts.
In his five seasons of competition, Southwind Ricardo has garnered 19 of his 36 career wins during the months of October, November and December.
