Odds-on favourite Krispy Apple was able to get past a stubborn Sell A Bit N late, winning Friday’s $40,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway.
Remanded outside her seven rivals, Krispy Apple (Jason Bartlett) settled fifth as Sell A Bit N (Jordan Stratton) and Cinamony (George Brennan) took early turns leading the lasses. After a :27.1 opening quarter-mile and a :56.2 intermission, the fave took her shot.
It was Krispy Apply engaging Sell A Bit, who had already made two moves. The latter maintained her lead in and out of the 1:24.3 three-quarters, with a length advantage into the lane. However, Krispy Apple wouldn’t be dismissed, edging past her tough foe by a length in 1:52.2.
Cinamony, who once again couldn’t match strides in the pocket, held third, with Dune In Red (Mark MacDonald) and Carobbean Pacetry (Brent Holland) earning the lesser loot.
For Krispy Apple, a seven-year-old millionaires daughter of Western Ideal co-owned by Bamond Racing and Joseph Davino and trained by Jeffrey Bamond, Jr., it was her 11th win in 23 seasonal starts.
