Fearless Ginger rolled to a 1:52 victory off a confident drive by Chris Page in the $33,803 Fillies and Mares Open II Pace on Thursday, Oct. 16 at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

Fearless Ginger, the prohibitive favourite, was sent directly to the lead and was untested through the opening quarter of :27. She got a breather to the half in :56, allowing her open up some daylight at the three-quarters in 1:24, and a :28 final panel was enough for Fearless Ginger to hold off the pocket-sitting Foxy Hill (Luke Hanners) by three-quarters of a length for the win. Plays In The Shade (Austin Hanners) was third.

The winning four-year-old daughter of Fear The Dragon-Ginger Shark is trained by Ron Burke and owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Fearless Ginger has now won 19 times in 57 career starts and has pocketed $497,522. The mare returned $2.40 in her eighth win in 21 tries this year.

In the $23,944 conditioned pace for fillies and mares, Trick Of The Light ($4.40) made an early move to grab the lead for Luke Hanners and held off frantic charges by five challengers in the lane to score in 1:52. The mare took point in a :26.4 first panel, led through the half in :55.3 and three-quarters in 1:23.3, and she hung on by a neck over pocket-sitter Sharp Looker (Cameron McCown) and Adashious Hanover (Kayne Kauffman), who were second and third, respectively. The winner, an Odds On Equuleus-Gordjus mare, is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. for Odds On Racing. The six-year-old now has four seasonal wins in 23 tries and is 26-for-106 lifetime with $730,285 in earnings.

Page had four winners on the 14-race card to tie up the meet’s leading-driver race. He is now level with Jeremy Smith on 41 wins.

Racing will resume at Dayton Raceway at 4 p.m. on Friday with 14 races on tap.
