
The inaugural Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale began on Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Corteva Coliseum - Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana, with Ponda Light topping the first yearling session.
Selling as Hip 136, Ponda Light attracted an opening day high bid of $176,056 ($125,000 USD) from 193 yearlings sold, purchased by Pat DeLong of South Beloit, Illinois. Consigned by Pond-A-Acres, the JK Endofanera-Sayulita filly is a half sister to multiple Indiana stakes winner Avanti ($342,740 - 1:50.1s).
Rocking Rhonda, Hip 21, was the next highest priced yearling of the session, going for $169,014 ($120,000 USD). The daughter of Rockin Image out of Rolling Delight was purchased by Jeff Berger/Summit Bloodstock of St. Petersburg, Florida from the In Law Stables consignment. She is a full sister to Indiana Sire Stakes winner Rolling Image ($196,444 - 1:49.3s).
Ponda Concorde, Hip 93, rounded out the top three yearlings at $154,930 ($110,000 USD) with Thomas Pollack, Venetia, Pennsylvania the winning bidder. The Temporal Hanover-Batoutahill colt from the Pond-A-Acres consignment is a half brother to multiple stakes winner Bargain ($500,889 - 1:53.4f).
Other top purchases included three yearlings selling for $140,845 ($100,000 USD): Therapist (Bulldog Hanover-Find Happiness), purchased by Odds On Racing of Boca Raton, Florida; Ponda Jiggy (Temporal Hanover-Henie Hanover), bought by Wrenn Racing, agent for McDuffee and DeVisser, of Carmel, Indiana; and Unburdened (Temporal Hanover-Muscle Baby Doll), acquired by Erv Miller of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, acting as agent.
The Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale, formerly known as the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale, will continue with another yearling session on Friday, Oct. 17 at 9 a.m., followed by a mixed sale on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 9 a.m.
