Despite being assigned the outermost post of the seven-horse contest, Warrawee Vital fired to the front and helmed the point to the finish of a 1:50.4 mile to win the $34,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Oct. 16).
Hustled to the front by driver Trevor Henry before a :27.3 first quarter, Warrawee Vital faced no challengers through a cruise into middle fractions of :56 and 1:23.2. The field remained in mostly single-file alignment off the final turn until slightly into the straightaway when everyone began to gather their momentum. However, the dawdling pace gave Warrawee Vital a smooth path to the finish while Beyond Better rallied home to take second, Enavant closed from last for third and Wheels On Fire faded from a pocket trip to finish fourth.
A four-year-old stallion by Captaintreacherous, Warrawee Vital won his seventh race from 17 starts this season and his 15th from 33 overall, pushing his earnings to $439,506. Rob Fellows trains the $3.60 winner for owners Blair Corbeil, Yolanda Fellows and M&S Racing Stable Inc.
