Once the field straightened down the backside, Roy right-lined Tattoo Artist and looped to the lead with Borth content to follow the favourite through a :54.4 half and 1:23 third station.
Tattoo Artist appeared unstressed and confidently sprinted away from his five rivals, posting a :26.1 final panel to hit the wire some three lengths the best in 1:49.1. Emmetts Buddy was next best with Jimmy Freight (Doug McNair) closing to nose out Funatthebeach N (Trevor Henry) for third.
