After a late-closing win in the $33,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park one week ago, So Much More took a different approach this time out and the result was the same: a neck victory in 1:50.2.
Driver James MacDonald put the popular Don Beatson trainee on the point from post four in the Friday feature and set opening fractions of :27.2 and :56.1 before Dabarndawgswatchin (Louis-Philippe Roy) came calling as they approached three-quarters in 1:24.1. That one's bark was worse than her bite though as So Much More press on through the stretch. With a final surge, Dabarndawgswatchin got within a neck at the wire. Shes Got It All (Travis Cullen) finished 2-1/2 lengths back in third.
So Much More paid $3.20 to win and $2.20 to place as the 3-5 bettors' choice. There was no show wagering.
The millionaire daughter of Big Jim has now won 13 Preferred/Open events at Mohawk this season with earnings just shy of $300,000 through 28 starts. The 54-time career winner is owned by Beatson and partners Kenneth Beatson of Palgrave, Ont., and Cole England of Exeter, Ont.
