Thomas Grossman, owner of Blue Chip Farms, LLC in Wallkill, New York was recently elected to the University Of Kentucky's Gluck Equine Research Foundation.
The Gluck Equine Research Foundation is non-profit organization whose goal is to provide the exchange of information between the University of Kentucky's Gluck Equine Research Center and the horse industry and to secure research funds.
Grossman brings a broad, diverse horse, as well as business background to this directorship position. With a degree in Finance from Lehigh University, Grossman is the Managing Partner of Union Avenue Advisors, an international equity investment fund. He became actively involved in harness racing in 1989 after purchasing his first racehorse. His enthusiasm and commitment to the sport increased as the years passed, and in 2001 he purchased Blue Chip Farms, a 700-acre equine nursery in upstate New York. Grossman's goal was to reformulate Blue Chip’s existing breeding operation into a viable business endeavour, and by doing so push New York’s breeding program into national prominence. To that end, he has attracted, and syndicated, a number of leading standardbred stallions to stand at the farm in the last 10 years, including 2012 U.S. Horse of the Year, Chapter Seven.
In 2010, Grossman broadened the farm's business base by creating a Young Sport Horse program anchored by a select group of farm-owned warmblood broodmares that includes two time Olympic gold medalist, Sapphire. She was a Grand Prix super star who won over $3.5-million in the ring. Active thoroughbred and standardbred racing stables round out Grossman's equine enterprises.
With such an investment in all aspects of the Equine Industry, Grossman is committed to promoting advances in horse health and well being. He looks forward to furthering the Gluck's Equine Research Foundation's mission to promote research that can translate into meaningful clinical applications for field veterinarians.
