Undercover Strike marched up the class ladder Monday evening at Woodbine Racetrack, but the hike didn’t keep the OSS graduate from extending his winning streak to three in a row.
In rein to Rick Zeron, Undercover Strike got away fourth in the early going while Tall Cotton charged to the lead and supplied the field with a :27.1 opening quarter in the $38,000 Preferred Trot. Zeron wheeled his charge to the outside in the backstretch, and he hustled his way to the lead at the mid-way point in :56.3. He led the group to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3 and then used a :28.4 closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Andover America in 1:53.2. Even-money favourite Daylon Magician was third.
Making his second for trainer Tony O’Sullivan start since being purchased privately by owner Frank Bellino of Bronxville, NY, Undercover Strike improved this year’s record to 9-5-0 from 25 trips to the track. The 10-time winner upped his lifetime earnings to $210,812 with the win.
