It was only a qualifying race, but the four mares entered in the fourth qualifier on Friday, Oct. 13 at Woodbine Mohawk Park could easily comprise the bulk of betting support for a Fillies & Mares Free-For-All event at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
Dabarndawgswatchin (Jody Jamieson) did the front-end heavy lifting in this tilt, with O'Brien Award winners Prohibition Legal (Louis-Philippe Roy) and Silver Label (Doug McNair) in close pursuit followed by a returning Need To Breathe (Travis Cullen). Those mares paced in that order through fractions of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:25.1 before some action in the stretch. Roy right-lined Prohibition Legal approaching the wire, and the lightly-raced four-year-old found the line first in 1:51.3 after pacing her own final quarter in :26 under no urging. Dabarndawgswatchin was a neck back, with Silver Label third through her own unurged :26 final panel.
Look for Millar Farms' Prohibition Legal (Big Jim - Catch A Wish) to head stateside for the 2023 Breeders Crown championships at Harrah's Hoosier Park. Eliminations (if needed) for the open events are slated for Saturday, Oct. 21.
