The featured Preferred Pace on Sunday (Oct. 13) at Hippodrome 3R was anything but dull, as two horses making three-wide moves during the race woke the crowd up.
Kinnder Jackson and driver Pierre-Luc Roy started off the show, going to the front with Surf Report (Tyler Jones) sitting on their back to the opening quarter in :27.
At the half mile mark in :56.1, Appleby Hanover (Jocelyn Gendron) came first-over, and favourite Histoire Enchantee (Stephane Gendron) came second-over then three-wide — but was unable to clear into first-over position until the three-quarters in 1:25.3 with Kinnder Jackson still on the lead.
Hooter Shooter and driver Stephane Brosseau took up the chase with their own three-wide move into the final turn, and they were able to clear both Histoire Enchantee and Kinnder Jackson to take command. In the stretch, Hooter Shooter was then challenged late by Surf Report, but held on to win by a half length in 1:55.4. GA Speed Gaby (Francis Picard) was third.
It was the fastest mile of the afternoon as Hooter Shooter, a six-year-old gelded son of Badlands Hanover, posted his eighth win of the year. He is owned and trained by Marc Andre Simoneau and paid $11.50 to win.
In the featured trot, it was all Kinderunbelievable and Roy.
The Breeders Cup champion filly by Archangel was sent to the front by Roy over Cor Leo (Stephane Gendron) at the opening quarter mile, and then led the field the rest of the mile. Kinderunbelievable held the field at bay and went on to win by 3-1/4 lengths in 2:01.
Cor Leo was second, with the first-over Chinnys Wings (Stephane Brosseau) finishing third.
It was the fourth win in nine starts this year for Kinderunbelievable. She was bred by owner-trainer Denitza Petrova of Melbourne, and she paid $3.10 to win.
Both Stephane Gendron and Pascal Berube had driving doubles Sunday.
