The trip was a sweet one for Buddy Weiser in Friday’s $12,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs, but the end result was even sweeter for the photogenic pacer.
Trainer/driver Rod Therres tripped out in the two-hole every step of the way with Buddy Weiser, who tracked Cool Cowboy through panels of :28, :58.2 and 1:26.3. Pacers went into sprint-mode in the final quarter, and when the dust settled it was Buddy Weiser prevailing by a neck over Cool Cowboy in 1:54.4. Mach Steady took home the show dough.
The six-year-old son of Western Ideal-Buddys Gal is owned by Veikko Pajunen of Vancouver, BC. The victory improved the pacer’s 2018 record to 3-1-1 from 12 tries, and it helped boost his lifetime win total to 22. He’s managed to bank more than $180,000 along the way.
