St. John's Racing and Entertainment Centre played host to the Mildred Williams Driving Series Final on Monday afternoon and, for what is believed to be a harness racing first, the full card of nine races was contested
with only women drivers.
Nova Scotia's Clare MacDonald drove three winners, including P H Tornado in the Preferred, as well as Our Ryall Flush and REs Buckey. (click here for results)
"Each and everyone put on a great show, and all the fans and horsemen alike had a great time," organizer Scott Forward told Trot Insider. "It was an honour for St. John's to have hosted it. Thanks go out to all the drivers and Brodeur Sulky, we raised over $4,000 for breast cancer and we're looking forward to hosting the finals again next season."
Forward sent special thanks to Ann Curran, who helped get the Mildred Williams drivers the full card of races.
"We had full support from the owners and members to do it all again next season," continued Forward.
