WEG Interested In Quebec Racing?

As reported by Paul Delean in yesterday's edition of The Montreal Gazette, this week could prove to be pivotal for the future of the Quebec standardbred racing industry. In his article, Delean introduces the idea of the Woodbine Entertainment Group possibly jumping into

the provincial picture.

Delean's article states that the court-appointed creditor protection Attractions Hippiques has been behind since June of 2008 expired yesterday. The report states that the Quebec racetrack operator has yet to serve notice whether or not it will look to extend the protection.

In The Montreal Gazette article, Delean wrote, among other ideas, "It's unclear what will happen to that market if Attractions Hippiques folds. Would the province strike a deal with a proven operator like Toronto's Woodbine Entertainment Group, ceding them the Quebec simulcast market in exchange for a share of the proceeds?"
