Less than one week after Trot Insider linked to a story which speculated whether three-year-old thoroughbred Sea The Stars is the best horse of all time, the colt has
been retired.
There was a possibility that the colt would cross the Atlantic Ocean to contest the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita on November 7. Although, after a long 2009 stakes campaign, Sea The Stars will now never race again. The marketable star will now spend the rest of his days out of the public eye in the shadows of the lucrative breeding shed.
"He's had a long season and has been in regular fast work from March 3, with his final workout on October 2. He's been in intensive training for seven months with only a three-week break after the Eclipse Stakes at the beginning of July," trainer John Oxx told Press Association Sport.
"We feel it is unfair to keep him going any further given his unprecedented record of achievement in the last six months."
