Woodmere Ideal Art had to work through the mile the hard way but found his nose on top at the wire in the Wednesday evening (Oct. 12) featured pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Dale Spence drove the Sifroi Melanson trainee to a 1:55.3 win in the $3,300 Preferred 2 Pace, braving the mile first over on pacesetter Screen Test (Driven by Corey MacPherson). Screen Test finished second with favourite His Boy Elroy (David Dowling) third. Woodmere Ideal Art, a seven-year-old son of Articulator, is owned by the Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B.

Horseman Taylor Doyle celebrated three victories on the night in Race 1, 2 and 5. The Doyle-trained Arrived Late won the opening dash in 1:58.3 in line to driver Spence for owner Robin Lajeunesse of Summerside. Race 2 saw Doyle catch drive Source Of Night to victory in 2:01.2 for trainer John McGuirk then Doyle covered both duties in race 5 as he trained and drove the Lajeunesse owned Wickedly Sinful to her third straight win in 2:01.1 for the two-year-old McWicked filly to remain undefeated on P.E.I.

Trainer Earl Watts scored a double on the Wednesday night card in Summerside as Starshipsalicia upset in 1:59.1 at 27-1 odds in Race 6 and Rock The Baby was a popular winner in Race 3 in 1:56.2, both with Dowling in the bike. The pair of wins puts Dowling in a tie with Red Shores Summerside leading driver Ken Murphy, who failed to win any dashes on the program. MacPherson had two wins on the night and is six wins back at 32 to sit third.

Live racing continues Thursday evening (Oct. 13) at 6 p.m. (ADT) at Red Shores Summerside.
